My Classroom Lost its Walls- a picture book on gardening for kids aged 3-7
On February 15th and 16th, I had the incredible experience of my very first author signing event for my debut picture book, My Classroom Lost Its Walls! Held at the Colorado Convention Center in association with the Colorado Federation of Gardening Clubs, this two-day event was a dream come true for me as a children’s book author. It was a celebration of literature, gardening, and the boundless curiosity of young minds.
From the moment I arrived, a surge of excitement filled the air. Seeing my book displayed and knowing that families were coming to meet me was both humbling and exhilarating. My Classroom Lost Its Walls is a lyrical story inspired by the magic of gardening, written for children ages 3-7. The thought of young readers flipping through its pages, and discovering the wonders of nature, filled me with immense joy.
The pop-up exhibition was thrilling for me! Setting up my booth, carefully arranging handmade gardens with paper flowers, and displaying my books in the most inviting way possible will be etched in my memory forever. To make the event even more special, I prepared bookish goodies for my readers with my book My Classroom Lost Its Walls! Buyers received delightful freebies, including seed packets and gardening sets, to inspire them to start their own green journeys.
I am deeply grateful to the Colorado Federation of Gardening Clubs for sponsoring this event and for their unwavering support of new authors like myself. Their dedication to promoting gardening and literature in the community is inspiring, and it was an honor to be part of their initiative. A heartfelt thank you goes out to Ms. Victoria Schmidt, the president of the club, whose encouragement and belief in my work played a pivotal role in making this event a reality. Her passion for both gardening and education mirrors the very essence of My Classroom Lost Its Walls.
Signing each book with a personalized message will always be the most cherished memory of the event. Writing something something special for every young reader created a unique bond between My Classroom Lost its Walls, the child, and myself. A particularly touching moment was when I met my youngest reader—an 11-month-old!
A memorable behind-the-scenes moment was when my dear friend and co-storyteller, Kaitlin, joined me to help bring the show to life. Her creativity and passion for all things storytelling are truly the essence of Stories and Beyond. This particular day holds a special place in my heart as I watched Kaitlin and myself pour our effort and enthusiasm into making the event a success. Witnessing her dedication and our collaborative efforts come to fruition was an unforgettable experience that I cherish deeply.
