Books and Brushes Booth @ Regis University

Stories and Beyond at Regis University

Stories and Beyond had the opportunity to display the Books and Brushes booth at Regis University on August 5th, 2025. DPS hosted a Resource Fair at Regis University, bringing together educators, vendors, and innovators from across the education landscape. Held in the heart of a stunning university campus, the event observed a community of professionals and innovators in the field of education.

What was the event about?

I had the pleasure and privilege to present my initiative, Books and Brushes—a unique program that combines picture book reading with hands-on, creative activities. My booth was dedicated to showcasing how literature can come alive through immersive, multi-sensory experiences for children. Think reading, paired with painting, crafting, and creative play. It was all about learning through doing—what I like to call “reading with your hands, eyes, and heart.”

Table Display- Book Booth

My booth stood out for its splash of colourful and bright display of books, activity kits, and photos from past book club sessions. Many educators passing by complimented on how inviting and joyful it looked and that absolutely made my day. But beyond aesthetics, what truly warmed my heart were the meaningful conversations I had with teachers and staff. Time and again, educators shared how they’re seeking more dynamic, engaging ways to introduce literacy and creativity into their classrooms. They stopped to explore the concept behind Books and Brushes—a structured reading program paired with creative activity kits, each one carefully curated around a picture book. From paper dolls to garden scenes to character-based crafts, these activities are designed not just to entertain but to deepen comprehension and spark imagination.

Building connections and networking

The Resource Fair wasn’t just a promotional event; it was a genuine opportunity to connect with the people who shape young minds every day.. There was a clear appetite for programming that doesn’t just teach kids to read, but to fall in love with reading. To feel stories. To express them creatively. To build meaning with their own hands. From seasoned educators to first-year teachers, the feedback was affirming: kids need more than worksheets—they need wonder. And that’s exactly what I hope Books and Brushes continues to offer.
Showcased my own books

In addition to showcasing the Books and Brushes concept, which is under the program Reading by Doing, I also displayed my two picture books—My Classroom Lost Its Walls and Mom Unplugged. These titles sparked curiosity and meaningful conversations, adding depth and value to my table. Not only did they highlight my work as an author, but they also opened doors for potential school partnerships and author visits.
