In a world constantly buzzing with notifications, deadlines, and to-do lists, pausing to be fully present can feel like a luxury. In my new picture book, Mom Unplugged, I am reminding us that some of the most meaningful moments in life are found in the quiet spaces between the hustle. Released this Mothers’ Day, Mom Unplugged is a poetic, heartwarming tribute to the joy of slowing down and savoring the simple pleasures of motherhood.
A True Story That Resonates with Every Parent
At its heart, Mom Unplugged is a true story — one that mirrors the everyday realities of countless families. Told in gentle, rhyming verse, the book follows a busy mom who decides to hit pause on her daily grind to reconnect with her two young daughters. What unfolds is a day filled with spontaneous play, silly dress-ups, wacky dance parties, and sweet, lavender-scented snuggles. It’s a refreshing, feel-good tale that celebrates the magic of being fully present, even if just for a day.
The verses flow with lyrical charm, making it an ideal read-aloud for bedtime or quiet moments. The soothing rhythm not only calms but also reinforces the deeper message: that presence, not perfection, is what children cherish most.
Illustrations That Match the Mood
Illustrated in soft pastel tones, Mom Unplugged is visually as gentle as its story. The muted hues perfectly capture the softness of the day — a world wrapped in comfort, imagination, and love. Every page brings out the warmth of those unhurried hours spent cuddling, giggling, and being together, away from routines and schedules, at least for a day, if not more.

Meet the Author: Jasneet Sethi
Jasneet Sethi’s journey as a storyteller is as heartfelt as her books. Originally from New Delhi, India, Jasneet moved with her family to Denver, Colorado in 2021. Since then, she’s embraced life in a new country by pursuing a long-held dream — writing for children.
Inspired by the daily storytimes she shared with her daughters, Sifat and Seerat, Jasneet rekindled her childhood fascination with illustrated storybooks. What began as a routine of reading together turned into a calling to write stories that spark joy, wonder, and connection.
Her debut picture book, My Classroom Lost Its Walls, offered a lyrical take on gardening and learning beyond physical spaces. Now, with Mom Unplugged, she continues her storytelling journey with a poignant and personal tale rooted in her own experiences as a mother.
Drawing from her academic background in English literature and psychology, Jasneet’s stories blend emotional resonance with playful imagination. She regularly shares her love for stories at schools, libraries, bookstores, and cultural events throughout Colorado, where her sessions often feature interactive storytelling and creative activities.
